The Transparency Act
Our Sustainability Statement
The Transparency Act, passed by the Norwegian Parliament and in force since 1 July 2022, requires companies to respect fundamental human rights and decent working conditions throughout their operations and supply chains, and ensure the public access to the information.
Sustainability is a core part of Aker Qrill Company’s strategy and identity. As a krill harvesting company operating in Antarctica, we are committed to safeguarding biodiversity, maintaining precautionary operational practices, and promoting responsible supply chain management.
The Group’s sustainability work is structured around four pillars: Sustainable Food Production, Biodiversity, a Safe Working Environment, and Responsible Transformation. The pillars were defined through a double materiality assessment completed in November 2024, which identified the impacts, risks and opportunities most material to the Group and its stakeholders. The Board of Directors and executive management oversee sustainability performance and risk exposure as part of regular review processes, and corporate-level environmental and operational risk assessments are conducted annually.
As an independent group, Aker Qrill Company continues to lead on key sustainability topics, including ecosystem-based fishery management, transparency in operations, science collaboration and wide stakeholder engagement. We apply a precautionary approach to krill harvesting, adhering to strict quotas set by CCAMLR and ensuring that actual catch remains at sustainable levels, while also setting a best-practice example for the international krill industry. In 2025, this leadership was reflected in the Group’s public support for the proposed Marine Protected Area covering approximately 70% of the Antarctic Peninsula and in the launch of the Krill Science Hub.
AQC supports knowledge-building through initiatives such as the Antarctic Wildlife Research Fund (AWR) and acoustic data sharing through HUB Ocean. In 2025, we again provided vessel time to the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) for ecosystem monitoring and biomass surveys, and we maintained 100% observer coverage on our vessels. The krill fishery is MSC certified since 2011. Beyond emissions from vessel operations, which are managed through ongoing fleet and technology upgrades, the Group’s activities do not pollute the external environment to any material extent.
AQC Sustainability Statement 2026
Transparency is a natural extension of how we operate, from the Antarctic Ocean to the finished product.
We believe that sustainably sourced marine resources like krill are key to addressing the future of food and nutrition. Our core values, sustainability, accountability and transparency, are what make this work possible.
For Aker QRILL Company, The Transparency Act aligns with the foundation of our business, and we welcome the transparency this Act initiate.
